No bingo loo for you
Ian Mann from Tuckswood, Norwich UK, is a sufferer of ulcerative colitis, a debilitating chronic bowel condition. Sufferers of this condition need to use the toilet frequently.
Mr. Mann, who works as a taxi driver, dropped a customer off at a Mecca Bingo Hall in Norwich City, after which he needed to use the toilet, so he produced his card provided by the Colitis and Crohn’s Association to the female staff on the door. The card explains that he has a non- contagious medical condition, and that he needs to use the toilet regularly. He asked if he may do so, but she refused him, claiming he would have to become a member to go inside the building and use the toilets. Needless to say Mr. Mann was somewhat furious at this refusal, and later complained to the bingo hall management.
A spokesman for Mecca Bingo said “We are very sorry. It is our policy that only members can enter the building, but under exceptional circumstances such as this we would certainly allow someone to use the facilities. We will be speaking to all staff, not just the member of staff involved, to make sure they are aware of our policy. If anyone else produces a card such as this then we would allow them to use our facilities. We would like to extend our apologies to Mr Mann.”
Zorbing in Liverpool
A high adrenaline sport known as ‘zorbing’ has taken to the streets of Liverpool in the UK this week, as part of a major TV advertising shoot for bingo. The action-packed spectacle will see giant multi-coloured bingo balls taking over the city, as a number of people ‘zorb’ in a giant transparent sphere.
The shoot lasted three days, and will feature iconic Liverpool landmarks such as the Liver Building and residential terraced streets, which were closed off in order for the giant spheres to move freely.
Featuring over 180 extras, including two fat ladies, two little ducks and real-life legs eleven, the advertising campaign for online bingo site Ladbrokes, budgeted at over £3m, was devised by advertising agency M&C Saatchi. It will air on British TV from mid to late September.
